PPP Proposal

Proposal:

Throughout the unit of Portfolio and Professional Planning, I aim to progress the development of my Professional identity. My existing website, although still current from the design aspect, demonstrates a broad range of skills I have developed and is split into a wide range of industry units. I would like to narrow my specialism within the industry and this will need to be reflected in my website. Since last years WOP unit I have created a Facebook page, which has been neglected over the summer. Throughout the year I would like to use this as a tool to communicate all my current projects and work experience that is happening around the set units, as well as discussing up and coming make-up products and trends that are of interest to my practise. This is an ideal marketing tool that will be essential in advertising my skills and services and connecting with the public. I also feel using other social networks will be a beneficial development for my professional identity. My target market is slowly being narrowed down, away from theatre work and also prosthetics work and veering towards fashion/editorial and hair and wig work. Therefore I also will develop creative networking pages, such as Pinterest and Instagram pages. Research into the correct pricing of make-up services, looking at daily/hourly rates, product usage and travel will be conducted and should be researched from existing make-up artists, baring their qualification level and location in mind. The portfolio will also need to reflect my narrowing down of industries and I will be working on a lot more specific fashion shoots, and photographic based collaborations, to make my portfolio more specialist, however it will still include some theatrical based work. The format of the portfolio is going to be moved from a hard A4 size portfolio to an interactive portfolio presented digitally on my iPad. This will allow me to demonstrate still work but also moving films etc. and is much more modern and fresh I feel. I do however aim to have a small hard portfolio available upon request. Last year I handed in a mock business card, printed on standard paper. This should be improved on this year with a professional set of business cards purchased. Looking at different types of business cards will be key for this development as it can be a very useful marketing tool. I would also like to investigate other marketing tools such as search engines and advertising sites (i.e Gumtree) and career specific places that I can advertise my services.

As mentioned in my proposal I aim to develop my ability to advertise myself as an informed professional in my chosen industry. To ensure this is reflected I will be working on narrowing the work on my website as well as the overall presentation, and also my self-evaluation of previous work. I intend to make the most of the collaborations available to me whilst I still attend the university which will enhance my portfolio quality, which I feel is currently not to standard due to not having a clear direction within previous years of where my specialism is based. Regarding the hand in I will also provide my website address, alongside the CD of my interactive portfolio which will be an up to date new way to present myself to industry professionals as well as the general public (LO2),
To document the changes in my identity I will be providing the assessors with a blog, documenting my work as it progresses, alongside any other collaborations I work on. This will also present any developments in my website, business card design or general professional identity. This will contain my self-evaluation on my professional identity and will house my ideas and thought process. (LO1). Researching the process of setting up a business will also be a process that I will need to investigate, so that once graduated and working I am following the correct legal procedures. I will be working to develop pricing knowledge so that for each job I can evaluate and provide an appropriate cost. This should be appropriate to my level of skill and qualification. I will be required to research into other artist rates and also I should consult bodies such as BECTU to look at the correct working hours and conditions a professional artist should expect. (LO3).
