Getting my name into the industry

After our lecture with Jenny Dayton, she gave me a better understanding of how to approach the industry, and the best way to find work. I have began this process by contacting film/tv companies as a starting point. This is not the industry I have initially outlined as where I wish to work, however I am approaching each industry offering my availability to get my name into the industry and gain experience that will be recognised on my CV.

Below is the generic email sent out to 8 production company based in the UK.

"To whom it may concern,
I am a student currently studying BA (Hons) Makeup for Media and Performance at the Arts University Bournemouth. I will be graduating this coming summer (July) and am currently looking for a trainee position within the industry - particularly within TV and film. I am a driven individual, looking to keep learning and excelling within the industry, offering my services as a trainee. If you are currently looking for a Trainee within any areas of your productions, or simply could offer me a day to shadow a current hair and makeup artist I would be extremely honoured.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Charlee Hulbert "

Below is one response from the PA of downton abbeys makeup designer Nic Collins. I was thrilled to get this response, regardless of if it is a generic response, and will continue to try and contact Nic at appropriate intervals.

"Dear Charlee,

Many thanks for your email.

I have passed it on to Nic, who will be in touch should she be in need of any help on the next series of Downton.

Very best,

Anna Hird

*** Update 17/03/15 ***

Anna has since been in contact again requesting my CV to pass on to Nicole. See Email below

Hi Charlee,

Nicole has been in touch to ask whether you have a CV that you could email across to us, to pass on to her?

Very best,

Anna.
